Four threads moved simultaneously over the weekend. Here is the Monday picture:
WILDFIRE — The National Interagency Fire Center elevated the national fire danger level to NPL 3 this morning — the third-highest level on a five-point scale. There are 31 large uncontained fires burning across the country, with 8 new fires ignited over the weekend. Critical fire weather returns Tuesday for northern Arizona and southern Utah. The 2026 fire season is running at 166% of the ten-year average.
SEVERE WEATHER — An EF2 tornado killed one person in Sedgwick/Harvey County, Kansas on Sunday. A tornado near Dix, Illinois killed two more and leveled homes. A tornado near Newburgh, Indiana collapsed an apartment building. The Storm Prediction Center has a SLIGHT risk in effect today for the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic and for the northern High Plains. Another SLIGHT risk is forecast for Tuesday across eastern Colorado, western Kansas, and northern Oklahoma.
SPACE WEATHER — An M6.8 solar flare erupted from sunspot region AR4473 on Sunday evening. A Type II radio sweep suggests a possible coronal mass ejection was launched. If it delivers a glancing blow to Earth later today or Tuesday, minor disruptions to satellite systems and high-frequency radio communications are possible. No geomagnetic storm is expected — just unsettled conditions.
EBOLA — The DRC outbreak now has 856 confirmed cases and 198 deaths. A burial team was attacked in Mongbwalu over the weekend and five response workers were taken hostage at border checkpoints. The Monday WHO situation report is expected today. No US cases. CDC risk to the US population remains LOW.
US-IRAN — Burgenstock Phase 2 first session concluded Sunday. Mediators called the atmosphere positive and constructive. Three working groups were established. The same day, Iran’s president publicly declared that Iran will never give up its right to enrich uranium — the central issue in the negotiations. CIA briefed the President on Iranian inconsistencies with MOU commitments.
All of it is in today’s Daily Threat Report, with full sourcing, analyst assessments, and household action guidance in the Daily Preparedness Brief.
