A General Mobile Radio License (GMRS) is required to use GMRS frequencies under 47 CFR Part 95 Subpart E. You must be 18 years old to hold a GMRS license and the license is valid for 10 years. The current fee is $35 for 10 years.
FCC Registration Number (FRN)
The FCC requires all license holders to obtain a FRN. If you already have a license, such as an Amateur Radio license, then you use the same FRN.
If you do not have a FRN go to the FCC’s Registration System (CORES) and Click Register.
Once you have your FRN you log in at the FCC License Manager
Once you log in you will see any licenses you currently have. To apply for a new license click “new license” in the upper left.
In the drop down box scroll to the bottom for ZA – General Mobile Radio Service. Then click “CONTINUE” on the right side.
Answer the questions – they should all be “NO.” Then click “CONTINUE.”
Complete the information screen.
There will then be two additional screens to verify your information and a payment screen.
