Being Prepared for Civil Unrest

I wrote a version of this article a little over three years ago when our nation saw an uprising of protests that turned into riots in most major cities around the country and at the forefront of those riots was Antifa.  Their tactics were to hijack an otherwise peaceful protest and instigate a riot.  Various reports around the country report that many of those arrested are not from the local area, so it begs the question as to who is behind these latest practices of turning peaceful demonstrations into riots.

“A general who attacks with fire is demonstrating his intelligence”  Sun Tzu.

In the years since the 2017 riots Antifa members have been training and learning.  Their tactics have escalated and fire is a common theme.  They are torching cars, and especially police vehicles.  They are lighting dumpsters and pushing them into the path of responders or against barricades.  They are probably carrying road flares or something similar to start these fires as it’s not as simple of throwing a match into a dumpster.  While liquor stores have been broken into and alcohol used to make Molotov cocktails other demonstrators have been caught with cans of gasoline, pre-made Molotov cocktails and pipe bombs.  They are using smoke grenades improvised from smoke distress flares, as well as fireworks.  They are throwing liquids, to include urine and gasoline and could easily escalate to caustic chemicals such as acids, etc.

They have improved their methods for communicating and coordinating their activities from what we saw three years ago, and they have definitely copied some of the tactics used by protestors in Hong Kong by placing barricades in the path of police.  Their activities are right out of the playbooks for guerrilla warfare and insurgency and The Rules of Radicals, by Saul Alinsky.

“A protracted campaign depletes the state’s resources,” Sun Tzu.

All of these riots are allegedly stemming from the actions of a lawless police officer, and we have seen similar protests after other similar events.  But there is much more to this, these events are not just in one city, they are occurring everywhere, and after the country is frustrated and tired of the ‘lockdown’ from the Corona virus for the past three months.

What is their end game?  It is to create a divide, a very large divide?   Some of these tactics certainly seem to be far beyond what was seen in 2017, there is much more property destruction and vandalism.  These are the same tactics and sequence of events that led up to the civil war in the Bosnian war as well as a number of other civil “Dirty War” conflicts in various parts of the world.  When does it end?  Is it likely to get worse the closer we get to the next election?  One thing that is different with these conflicts, high profile people, including staffers of Joe Biden, Chrissy Teigen, Seth Rogan and other celebrities are providing large sums of money to an organization that is posting bail for those arrested.

“A general who recklessly underestimates the enemy is sure to be captured.”  Sun Tzu.

This article is about what you need to be doing so you can go about your everyday activities with confidence that you are prepared in case you find yourself caught up in a protest.  I’ve broken this article down into some different areas that you should be prepared in.

…..more to come
