Day 1 – The Journey Home
Sunday 11th May 2025
I wondered how much sleep I would get. After all I had less than five hours the night before, up at 2am and then a six and a hlf hour drive, mostly through the night, followed by the return trip. By the time I got to sleep it was after 9pm. I didn’t hear a sound out of Boomer until 5.45am.
After going outside and taking care of business we started marker training (see Florida K9 Training Unleashed) for 2 minutes.
After some more play time and rubs I had to do some work so he decided to find a spot on my couch to get comfortable.

After a while we went in to the main house where he then played with Sadie for a while before deciding it was nap time, laying down next to me. Any time I would get up he would be under my feet. As it was Mother’s Day my eldest granddaughter came out with the ‘breakfast request’ from mom, eggs, sausage, pancakes and toast, and not forgetting the coffee.

As if getting three frying pans on the go, as well as coffee and toast, wasn’t enough of a challenge every step I made I had to look first as Boomer was never less than a few inches from my feet!
Throughout the day, any time I moved, he was right there. Every time he woke from a nap we would go outside and he would pee.
An Amazon shopping spree was in order to get him a vest, as well as his own air tag and a longer leash for training. And of course I had to get a vest and air tag for Sadie. Sadie likes to wander off to the neighbors. They have chicken, goats, ducks and some other animals. My daughter talked to them a couple of weeks ago as we were afraid she might get shot. They said they don’t mind her coming over as she cents as they have a couple of dogs they have to keep inside a fence as they attach the chickens. Sadie just lays there and watches, she is their protector. They have had trouble with a fox.
In the afternoon Sadie had to go to the groomers. She hates going in the store so I decided Boomer and I would go along to see if Sadie would follow her in the store. This was Boomer’s first trip back in the truck, but this time it would be without her kennel. She did really well, just looking out the window watching everything.

When we got to the parking lot Sadie was being a big, 125lb, baby and would not get out of my daughters vehicle. It took both of us, one pushing and one pulling, to get her out. After that she did pretty well following Boomer into the store but it did take a couple of tries to get her through the door to the grooming room.

Once Sadie was in the groomers the grandkids and Boomer went around the store. We got another bag of puppy food as well as some treats and a couple of toys. Then back home for more play in the yard.

Later after Sadie came back from the groomers it was time for both dogs to play chasing the rope ball in the yard, followed of course by the required nap.

Tomorrow I will watch some more videos on training, especially on using the remote training collar and leash training.
At bed time she settled right into her kennel while I did my leg therapy. I wonder if tonight will be as good as last night.
