Good, and Sad, News

Posted on 2021-05-212021-05-21 by Nick Meacher

If you have read any of my posts or articles on food storage, and particularly how to quick start, then you know I’ve mentioned the Latter-Day Saints (LDS) Home Storage Centers. These are located in almost every major city and are open to the public to get #10 cans of food. Back in the early…

Necessity vs. Luxury

Posted on 2021-05-182021-05-18 by Nick Meacher

by Jim Cobb, reposted with permission In one of the survival FB groups a while back, there was a discussion about dealing with high temperatures during a power outage, specifically while residing in an apartment building. The question was – in the absence of A/C, what can be done to deal with extreme heat? As…

Don’t Put off Until Tomorrow

Posted on 2021-05-142021-05-14 by Nick Meacher

“If only I had taken care of it at the time.”“I shouldn’t have waited.” Ever said that? We have a tendency to put things off if they are not urgent, or a priority to us. Putting off a tooth cleaning or discovering that you have a cavity and putting it off can lead to larger…

No Plan Survives First Contact

Posted on 2021-05-042021-05-04 by Nick Meacher

This was my response in a chat on a social media site to a comment about not needing to learn ham radio until you need it and using flash cards as “just in time” training. I’ve added some ‘extra’ stuff here as it got me thinking more, yes the dam squirrel came running by in…

Do you PLAN your preparedness? Do you plan & prioritize what preps you need? What are you planning for? Do you know what threats and hazards you are at risk from? Threat and Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (THIRA) is a process used in emergency management to identify and then develop plans to mitigate, respond…

New lower cost tier

Posted on 2021-03-29 by Nick Meacher

I’ve added a lower cost tier, $9.95/month.  I want to make it more affordable so we can help more families become prepared as we are now getting into tornado “season” in many parts of the country and before we know it it will be hurricane “season.” I was going to change the current one and…
