MED-07: Wound Care and Infection Management
Layperson wound care to prevent infection and support healing until evacuation.
Course Overview, One Page
A single printable page covering what MED-07 teaches, the 6 lessons, what you need before starting, and the doctrinal sources behind the method. Useful for deciding whether the course is for you, or for handing to somebody in your group who is weighing it up.
Why This Course
By the end of this course, you’ll be able to:
- Sort a wound into “treat and monitor” or “evacuate now” and take barrier precautions before contact.
- Irrigate a wound with safe water using improvised methods, and know what never to put in a wound.
- Choose a simple, packing, or wet-to-dry dressing and decide whether a wound stays open.
- Change a dressing step by step and keep a simple wound-tracking record.
- Recognize local and systemic signs of infection and escalate through MEDEVAC and CASREP reporting.
Lessons 01–06
Naming the four common wound types, sizing up what you treat here versus what needs higher care now, and precautions before any contact.
Why flushing contamination out matters, what water to use and what never to put in a wound, improvised irrigation methods, and special cases.
Choosing simple, packing, or wet-to-dry dressings, deciding when a wound stays open versus closed with strips, and matching the dressing to wound condition.
How often to change a dressing and what triggers an early change, the step-by-step procedure, and a simple wound-tracking habit.
Telling normal healing from infection, the local signs to check at every change, and the systemic red flags that mean infection may be spreading.
The evacuate-now checklist, how the decision to evacuate feeds MEDEVAC and CASREP reporting, and the full care pathway from first wound to evacuation.
