What this course builds, lesson by lesson
Fuel and generators show up across this curriculum — LOG-01’s foundation and floor levels, LOG-02’s storage rules, LOG-03’s compliance-awareness flag, LOG-04’s cooking fuel budget — but none of those lessons teach fuel chemistry, generator sizing, or solar design in depth. This course is where that depth actually lives.
Fuel handling and generator operation carry real hazards — fire, carbon monoxide poisoning, and electrical injury. This course gives general awareness; it is not a substitute for your specific equipment’s manufacturer manual, a licensed electrician, or your local fire and building code. Where this course states a number, verify it against your own equipment and jurisdiction before relying on it.
| Lesson | Builds |
|---|---|
| 1 — Fuel Storage | Container classes by fuel type, code-awareness categories, and rotation schedules by fuel chemistry. |
| 2 — Fuel Chemistry & Hazards | Vapor behavior, ignition sources, and a safe fueling procedure. |
| 3 — Generator Sizing | Running vs. starting watts, a real load calculation, and generator types. |
| 4 — Generator Operation & CO Safety | Safe placement, the CO hazard, maintenance, and why back-feeding is never acceptable. |
| 5 — Solar Basics | Components, sizing from watt-hours, battery chemistry, and realistic derating. |
| 6 — The Group’s Power & Fuel Plan | Integrating fuel, generator, and solar into one plan across the LOG-01 scenario tiers. |
Prerequisite
This course assumes your group has completed LOG-01 Lesson 3 (floor levels) and Lesson 6 (the annual review cadence) at minimum, ideally the full LOG-01 course. It also references LOG-02 Lesson 2, LOG-03 Lesson 5, and LOG-04 Lesson 3 directly.
How to use these lessons
Each lesson follows the same structure as the rest of this curriculum: a concept section (illustrated with diagrams in Lessons 4 and 5), an application note, and a drill with an embedded worksheet. Work them in order — Lesson 6’s capstone assumes the load calculation, fuel storage, and solar sizing built in Lessons 1, 3, and 5.
Every lesson ends with a knowledge check, and the next lesson stays locked until you answer all of its questions correctly. As with the rest of this curriculum, the feedback on each option is written to explain the reasoning, not just mark the answer right or wrong — read it even when you get a question right the first time.
Orientation Check
Answer both before starting Lesson 1 below. These two questions check your footing; they do not lock any lesson.
