PLN-10: Family Emergency Plan
Turn the blank pages of the Family Emergency Plan Workbook into decisions your household has actually made.
Why This Course
By the end of this course, you’ll be able to:
- Name who each member of your household contacts, in what order, and by what means when the cell network is down
- Send any separated family member to a rally point they can reach on foot from wherever they are
- Decide in advance which events move your household to a higher readiness level, and what each level has you do
- Hand a ten-minute evacuation checklist to anyone in your house and have them get the essentials out first
- Keep the plan current with a quarterly review owned by one named person
Lessons 01 Through 04
Build the family roster, a four-role contact hierarchy with an out-of-area relay, and a PACE communications plan whose layers fail in different ways.
Set four rally points and message drops, map routes from every place your family spends the day, arrange pickups for dependents, adopt your PREP-CON triggers, and assemble the Contingency Binder.
Organize gear by intent across four tiers, pack a Get Home Bag for the walk you actually mapped, buy a medical kit by contents, and plan for your pets.
Write the first-five-minutes evacuation checklist, decide where the plan lives and who sees which parts, and set up the review and rehearsal routine that keeps it working.
How This Course Works
| Format | Four online lessons, each with knowledge checks placed through the material. Each lesson unlocks when you finish the one before it. |
| Time | About an hour of reading per lesson, plus the time it takes your household to make and record its decisions. |
| What you need | The Family Emergency Plan Workbook. You fill it in as you go; the course turns its blank sections into decisions. |
| Companion guide | The PLN-10 Student Companion Guide is a condensed field reference for use while you complete the workbook. It is a companion to the lessons, not a substitute. |
| Progress | Saved in this browser on this device. Use the same browser to pick up where you left off. |
The course is built on top of a public FFTP technical reference, Family Emergency Plan Workbook — what a complete family plan contains, where most plans break down, and how the workbook gives you the structure to build one.
It sits outside the paywall on purpose. Read it before you start and the lessons will land faster; read it afterward and it is the reference you keep. It is also the thing to hand somebody in your group who needs the reasoning without taking the course.
The lessons reinforce it rather than repeat it: each one carries the working subset you need on the ground, and points back to the article for the full treatment.
