Description
Brevity codes are used to shorten the number of letters you need to encrypt in a message. A 10 letter or more word can take up to 20 digits when each letter has to be encrypted. This can create opportunities for errors. With brevity codes that word becomes 4-digits preceded by the zero that indicates what follows is a brevity code.
When you include phrases in the code set, such as “emergency shelters established” you take what could be 50 digits down to 5. Again significantly reducing the time to encode, and decode, as well as elimination of errors.
The numbers are created using the Verhoeff algorithm, that produces a set of numbers that reduce the chances of transposition and include a check digit.
This is a set 16 double side 4×6 cards with over 450 of the most commonly used words for SITREPs, LP/OP reports, disaster and emergency reports etc. There is a set of the words in number order (for decrypting) and alphabetical (for encrypting).
There are also 60 commonly used phrases for SITREPs, and emergency & disaster reports etc. to further shorten the number of words and letters you need to encrypt.
There are some blank numbered spaces to add your own for things like locations.
There is also a bonus checkerboard, encryption & decryption instructions & OTP conversion grid to help you encrypt & decrypt.
