Encryption on ham frequencies is against Part 97 rules (as well as on FRS, GMRS and MURS frequencies). If you have an Anytone radio, such as the 878 (hand held) or 578 (mobile) you might have noticed in the CPS (programming software) if you open up a channel information that on the right-hand side there are boxes for Digital Encryption and below it AES Digital Encryption. (This isn't available in the Anytone 868. I can't speak to other DMR radios). As DMR was first developed for commercial applications (they are Part 90 certified by the FCC) they have features that are permitted and used for those operating on a business frequency, including encryption. Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) is the highest voice encryption standard available, and used (required) on all Federal communications networks. If you expand the Digital section in the CPS you will see the Encryption ID list. Clicking on on the ID # and look in the information box at the bottom of the screen will indicate other settings that would need to be set for encryption to be enabled on a selected channel.
